Renowned cartoonist and caricaturist Sajjive Balakrishnan, who gained entry into Limca Book of Records by drawing the highest number of full-body caricatures in 12 hours, will wield his pen for a noble cause by drawing caricatures of patients.

He will interact with the patients at Ernakulam Government General Hospital at 10.30 am on Wednesday as part of the Kochi Biennale Foundation’s ‘Arts and Medicine’ project. Sajjive Balakrishnan, who calls himself a ‘fat and fast cartoonist’, will present the caricatures to the patients.

A lawyer by education and an income tax officer by profession, Sajjive Balakrishnan started drawing cartoons and caricatures during his school days. In 2010, on the eve of Onam at Thrikkakkara Mahadeva Temple premises, he drew 651 caricatures in 12 hours finding a place in the Limca Book of Records.

The KBF is now planning to incorporate more art forms into the ‘Arts and Medicine’ project so that the patients can fully experience the healing power of art. The project is being implemented with guidance from Iva Fattorini, Chair of Global Arts and Medicine Institute, Cleveland Clinic, and Ernakulam district administration. The project was launched by Union Minister for Food and Agriculture K V Thomas on February 1.
