The police will launch a massive drive to nab those evading warrants issued by various courts, from Tuesday. The police will  conduct special drive in all the police stations in the city to book the offenders evading warrants.

According to Muhammad Rafique, Deputy Commissioner, Law and Order, Kochi City Police, the drive has been planned after considering high number of unexecuted warrants pending in each police stations.

“There are as many as 525 unexecuted warrants pending in the city from January this year. We would be forming a team in each police stations which would inquire about the people who are absconding each case. The drive would last for several weeks until a good number of people are taken into custody and produced before the court. Members of shadow police squad have  also been included in the drive,”Muhammad Rafique said.

However, some police officials expressed doubt about the result of such a drive. “When such a drive is conducted, it should be confidential. Otherwise the people would go underground even before the drive begins. After announcing it in the media, the effect of the drive is questionable,” a police official said.

The highest number of cases for which people went absconding are related to cheating.

Besides, people involved in criminal activities like murder, human trafficking, murder attempt and drug peddling are also in the list. The police officials have also included a good number of goons in the list for evading the arrest.

These goons would be nabbed under Kerala Anti Social Activities (Prevention) Act.
