Youth Held for Growing Ganja

Shadow police on Monday nabbed a youth for growing ganja plants in the compound of his house near Kundanoor-Thevara bridge. According to the police, the arrested person is Appu alias Shivan, 20, of Pullattu thitta house, K C Venugopal Road, Nettoor.

According to Tommy Sebastian, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Special Branch, a raid was conducted at the residence of Appu following a tip-off. “Recently, there were complaints from principals and teachers of various schools in the city that several students were found using ganja.

“Following the tip-off, we carried out an investigation. We received confirmed information that Appu was peddling ganja to students from various schools and colleges. On the basis of this we conducted raid at his residence. We found several ganja plants, one even was three-feet long,” he said.

According to Shadow police officials,  several youths frequented Appu’s residence and smoked ganja. They also dried ganja and sold it to youth at Kundannoor. Appu was taken to Panangad police station where his arrest was recorded. He was produced before the court and remanded.

Last year, in a similar incident, police had found ganja plants grown inside the compound of a house at Elamakkara. The police said some of the deserted areas and abandoned buildings are hubs for ganja peddlers who grow plants in these places. The police officials have been directed to conduct raids at such places.
