KOCHI: Thrikkakara, the abode of Lord Mahabali, is generating the vigour of generosity and communal harmony. Mixing the spirit of Onam with Ramzan, the office-bearers of Thrikkakara Vamanamurthy Mahakshetram organised an Iftar party at the Thiruvonam Hall of the temple on Saturday, which is the first of its kind.

The Iftar evoked the true spirit of religious harmony and brotherhood. Thrikkakara MLA Benny Behnan who participated in the Iftar said: “This is an effort, which should be appreciated in its fullest spirit. Faith and brotherhood knew no bounds and that is what you can see here. King Mahabali is the icon of generosity and religious harmony. So, there is no wonder in hundreds cutting across caste and creed  thronging here to take part in an Iftar party."

The Thrikkakara Vamanamurthi temple committee organised a sumptuous feast, which consisted  mainly of Malabar food. Dry fruits, samosa, Unnakka, appam, pathiri stew etc., were among the items.

“Onam is celeberated with much fervour and we decided to organise such a programme to bring back the true spirit of the festival, ” Thrikkakara Temple advisory committee Secretary Pramod Kumar said.

“We welcome such efforts. This is the first of its kind event,” Thrikkakara Municipality Chairman P I Muhammad Ali said . The Iftar concluded with a note that every effort would be made from all corners of Thrikkakara to sustain the spirit of the event in the coming years as well.

The Thrikkakara Vamanamoorthy Temple is one of the very few temples in India dedicated to Lord Vamana. The temple possesses some lithic records of historic significance.
