MUMBAI: The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to get technology from the Kirloskar Brothers Ltd for controlling floods in the city.

The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting attended by Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thacekray, Mumbai's guardian minister Subhash Desai, mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar and Municipal Commissionar Ajoy Mehta at Mayor's bungalow on Tuesday.

Sanjay Kirloskar, Chairman of Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. too was present at the meeting and made presentation with his technical experts suggesting methods to control floods in the city on basis of their experience in executing flood control systems in various countries.

Kirloskar Brothers have successfully executed their technology in Thai capital Bangkok, which was hit by severe floods in 2011 that lasted for almost three months. Establishment of giant "Concrete Volute Pumps" has ensured that Bangkok would be free of floods.

Mumbai too shall have similar solutions, the experts are learnt to have said at the meeting.Along with water logging, the potholes in Mumbai have made Shiv Sena, the party that is in power in the BMC for around 25 years now, a laughing stock.
