Three years after breaking away from IIT-JEE to conduct its own entrance tests, ISRO’s space technology academy in the district is back to adopting the national-level joint entrance exams.
There will be no ISAT entrance tests from 2013 onwards, officials of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) said. ‘’This is because the UGC has recommended the adoption of the national-level unified entrance tests,’’ IIST director K S Dasgupta said.
From 2013 onwards, IIST will use the JEE Main (formerly AIEEE) as the entrance exam for admissions. JEE Main is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The JEE Main examination is scheduled to be held in April, 2013.
Established in 2007, the IIST had drawn its students for the first two years from the IIT-JEE. From 2010, it had dropped the IIT-JEE in favour of its own entrance examinations, the ISAT.
ISATs were conducted across the country, in as many as 33 venues, including Port Blair, for three years for selecting students for the four BTech courses offered by IIST up to 2012. The ISAT was designed to test the academic as well as creative aptitude of the candidates. For attending ISAT 2012, more than 1.25 lakh aspirants from across the country had applied.
