Sree Chithira Thirunal National Award for this year will be presented to writer and Jnanpith winner M T Vasudevan Nair by Governor Nikhil Kumar at a function here on Monday.
The award is instituted by the Sree Chithira Thirunal Trust and carries a purse of Rs 1 lakh and a citation.
Vasudevan Nair has been selected by a panel consisting of Palode Ravi MLA, former Additional Chief Secretary D Babu Paul, S K Nair, trust chairman T Raveendran Thampi and managing trustee T Satheesh Kumar.
Vasudevan Nair has been selected for his outstanding contribution to the nation in the field of Malayalam literature, cinema and his initiation to set up Thunchan Parambu and Malayalam University. Former recipients of the award include ISRO former chairman G Madhavan Nair, M S Swaminathan etc.
