Kerala Excise Department has handed over information to their Tamil Nadu counterparts about the secret godowns set up on the borders of Tamil Nadu to stock illicit spirit, meant for smuggling into the state, during the festival season.
The discussions were held at a meeting of Excise Department officials from both states here on Saturday. It was decided to conduct joint raids on the basis of the information handed over to Tamil Nadu Excise Department.
Speaking to mediapersons, Tamil Nadu Excise Commissioner Malik Firoz Khan said that they had received lot of tip-offs from Kerala and on this basis they would act immediately.
He said they were looking forward for proper coordinated efforts between the two states to check the inflow of illicit spirit to Kerala during Onam season. X Anil Xavier, Excise commissioner, Kerala had visited Karnataka and Tamil Nadu in August to discuss the steps taken to check the inflow of illicit spirit.
N Sesha Sai, IG, Tamil Nadu police and other officials were there in the 10-member Tamil Nadu team which came to hold discussions.
Deputy Excise Commissioners and Joint Excise Commissioners, who were in-charge of the Border districts of the state, also attended the meeting.
