Swathi Music Fest Begins Today

The music fete will be held over ten days this year, which otherwise concluded on the seventh day, as the festival is completing 15 years

Swathi Sangeethotsavam, the annual music festival organised as a tribute to Maharaja Swathi Thirunal, will commence on Saturday.

 The music fete will be held over ten days this year, which otherwise concluded on the seventh day, as the festival is completing 15 years, said managing trustee of Palace Trust Gowri Parvathy Bayi.

 The Swathi Sangeethotsavam-2014,  to be held at Kuthira Malika, will open with Sanjay Subrahmanyan’s recital on Saturday at 6 pm.  Accompanying Sanjay will be S R Mahadev Sarma (violin), B Harikumar (mridangam) and Perukav P L Sudheer (ghatam).

 On Sunday there will be a concert by Prince Rama Varma. He will be accompanied by S R Vinu (violin), B Harikumar (mridangam) , S Karthick  (ghatam) and Payyannur T Govindaprasad (morsing). 

 On Monday there will be Amrutha Venkatesh’s vocal concert. Bombay  Madhavan (violin), Nanjil Arul (mridangam), S Karthik (ghatam) and Payyannur T Govindaprasad (morsing) will accompany her.

 Parassala B Ponnammal will perform on Tuesday, in the company of  Attukal Balasubramaniam (violin),  Palakkad Maheshkumar (mridangam) and S Karthick (ghatam). On Wednesday, Venkataramanan will take the stage in the company of Sampath (violin), G Babu (mridangam) and Manjoor Unnikrishnan (ghatam).

 On Thursday there will be a recital by T V Gopalakrishnan. Accompanying him will be S Vardarajan (violin), Palakkad Maheshkumar (mridangam) and Thripunithura Radhakrishnan (ghatam). On January 10 there will be a violin solo by S Varadarajan, accompanied by T V Gopalakrishnan (mridangam) and Thripunithura Radhakrishnan (ghatam).

Saurabh Kadgaonkar will render Hindustani vocal on January 11 with Arvind Kadgaonkar (thabla) and Rohan Mahekar (harmonium). Seetha Rajan will perform ‘bala brundam’ on January 12.

 The festival will conclude with the Carnatic vocal by O S Arun on January 13. He will be accompanied by M R Gopinath (violin), J Vaidhyanathan (mridangam), S Karthick (ghatam) and S Ganapathy (tabla).
