The 22nd Padmarajan awards for short story and cinema have been announced here on Wednesday.

‘Kathirippu’, penned by Anand bagged the award for the best short story. The award carries a purse of Rs 10000 and a statuette. A jury comprising of S V Venugopan Nair as chairman and V Madhusoodhanan Nair, Pazhavila Ramesan and B Babu Prasad as members selected the award winner.

‘Crime No:89’, which was recently selected as the best feature film in the State film awards, bagged the award for the best movie. Noted director Lenin Rajendran headed the jury to select the best film which had cinematographer Vipin Mohan, editor Mahesh Narayanan and Padmarajan Trust chairman Gandhimathi Balan as members.

 The director of the movie Sudevan will get a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a statuette and the scriptwriter will get Rs 10,000, the jury members told a press meet here on Wednesday. V Madhusoodhanan Nair, Babu Prasad, among others, were also present in the press meet.

The awards will be presented  at a function to be held here on May 23.
