KSCSTE Science Festival at Kanakakkunnu from Tomorrow

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) is organising a science festival on November 2, 3 and 8 as part of the fortnight-long International Book Fair which begins here on Saturday.

 The science festival at the Banquet Hall at Kanakakkunnu Palace will have symposia, interactive sessions and public lectures on contemporary science issues and achievements.

 Project Director of PSLV programme Dr P Kunhikrishnan; former Deputy Director, Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC),  P Radhakrishnan; and former Head of Technology Transfer, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) V P Balagangadharan will handle sessions on ‘Space expedition and the Mangalyaan mission’ on Sunday.

 Papers on the Western Ghats will be presented by Chairman of Biodiversity Board Dr Oommen V Oommen; Commonwealth expert Dr K Ravi and chairman of Salim Ali Foundation Dr V S Vijayan on Monday.

 An experiment-based programme presented by Science Popularisation Expert Dr C P Aravindakshan on ‘Challenge science’ will also be held on Monday. The subject for discussion on November 8 is ‘God particle and future of universe.’

 Well-known science author and former Dean of Kerala University Dr C G Ramachandran Nair; former Vice-Chancellor of Cochin University Prof Babu Joseph; retired professor of MG College Dr M N Sreedaran Nair; Executive Vice-President of KSCSTE Prof V N Rajasekharan Pillai; Dean, IUCCA Pune, Prof Thanu Padmanabhan and ISRO former chairman Dr G Madhavan Nair will deliver public lectures on these three days.

 There will be on-the-spot registrations for students who want to participate in the programmes at 9.30 am on all three days. The students will be admitted on a first-come-first-served basis.
