City to Host FOSS Young Professional Meet

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:International Centre for Free and Open Source Software will organize 'FOSS Young Professional Meet 2015' (FYPM 2015) at Mascot Hotel here from December 21-22.

 The Meet has been organised as ICFOSS's initiative to expose young professionals to the opportunities in FOSS and introduce them to emerging FOSS-based tools, technology and trends. The lead theme for the FYPM2015 is 'Internet of Things with Open Source Hardware', reflecting the importance of recent developments in this domain.

 “ Through FYPM we aim to highlight the opportunities in the FOSS domain to young professionals and enable them to acquire information, skills and competencies. Kerala has an abundance of young professionals in Information Technology, including students, young graduates, start-up companies, and students who are in the process of completing their academic programs out of college,” ICFOSS Director Dr Jayasankar Prasad said.

 " Besides their energy and vibrancy, this group is also a significant source of innovation in technology domains, which is a much-needed input for the future development of the country,” he said.

 The meet will have has several sessions such as IoT Data Analytics, Sensors and Networking, Cloud Computing and IoT, Open Source Hardware and panel discussions on FOSS entrepreneurship and FOSS Trends as part of the two-day programme.

 A Project contest on ‘IoT with Open Source Hardware is also being conducted at the event. The winners will be announced at the valedictory function to be held on  December 22. The first prize is a cash award of Rs 50,000/- followed by first runners up with Rs 25,000/- and second runners up with Rs 10,000.
