Premam DVDs Seized from Censor Board Office

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The Anti-Piracy Cell of the state police seized two DVDs of Malayalam film ‘Premam’ submitted to the Censor Board by the producer. The cell, which probes the leakage of the pre-release copies of the film, had earlier asked the board to hand over the copies in its possession. The police arrived at the board’s regional office at the Chithranjali Studio complex here after the latter failed to hand over the copies before the deadline ended on Friday noon.

The censor board regional office had delayed the handing over of the copies citing that it needed prior permission from its Mumbai office. However, following the seizure, the office stated that it received a nod at noon and would have handed it over willingly. As per the practice, the regional office sends the censor copies to the Mumbai headquarters from where it would be sealed and stored.

“We got nod from Mumbai office on Friday and would have handed over the copies without a warrant. The copies given include those submitted in the office on May 19 and May 26 were handed over,” Regional Censor Officer Prathibha said.

Anti-Piracy Cell officials said they would seek scientific methods to know whether the leakage occured from the board office.
