THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The LDF on Friday staged a mass dharna in front of the Secretariat here in protest against the Union Government for ignoring Thiruvananthapuram while sanctioning smart cities.
Inaugurating the dharna, CPM district secretary Kadakampally Surendran said the state capital was not included in the list of smart cities due to the political rivalry between the BJP and the Congress.
Stressing the need for organising mass protests against the Centre’s decision, he said Kerala was the primary choice for the Centre for implementing the Central scheme of JNNURM. V Sivankutty MLA presided over the protest meet. LDF district convener V Gangadharan Nadar, A Sampath MP, Vettukad Solomon, Attingal Ramachandran, among others spoke.
