Four Arrested With Leopard Skin

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Palode range forest officials on Monday arrested a four-member gang for possessing leopard skin. Officials said the accused were held from Sanghumugham while they were travelling in two luxury cars with the leopard skin to meet prospective buyers.

They were identified as Onasimshanu, 34, and Charles, 35, both hailing from Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, Sujas, 45, of

Pongumoodu near Ulloor, and Santhosh, 39, of Thachottukavu, near here.

The accused reportedly told the officials that they got the skin from Tamil Nadu.

They were produced before a local court and remanded.  The Forest Department team was led by Flying Squad Divisional Forest Officer J R Ani and Palode range forest officer S V Vinod. The arrest was based on a tip-off to Assistant Conservator S Santhosh Kumar.

Three Held for Assaulting Youth

T’Puram: The Kazhakootam police on Monday arrested three persons, including a minor, on charges of assaulting a person named Sajeer, 19, of Kariyil near Kazhakootam late on Sunday. The accused are Vishnu, 24, Nithin, 25, and the minor. The attack is said to be in retaliation to an attack by Sajeer and his friend on the minor earlier, in connection with which a case has been registered at the Mangalapuram police station. The minor was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

Gold Chain, Rubber Sheets Stolen

T’Puram: A burglar broke into a house at Marannalloor on Monday morning and decamped with a gold chain and around 90 rubber sheets. The Maranalloor police said that the theft occurred in the house of Shajin Jose near Navodaya Lane. He entered the house through a window, around 2 am, and snatched the chain worn by Shajin’s mother. The victims said the thief fled the house after taking the rubber sheets kept in the hall. An investigation is on.
