THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Federation of Indigenous Apiculturists (FIA) will hold ‘’Thenutsavam-2015’’, a honey fest here from September 9, which will focus on spreading the importance of honey.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the four-day fest, which is being held in collaboration with the State Horticulture Mission, Kerala Agriculture University, Horticorp and State Biodiversity Board at the VJT Hall, in the city. Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan, Health Minister V S Sivakumar, Finance minister K M Mani, Horticorp Chairman Lal Varghese Kalpakavadi, FIA general secretary A Abdul Kalam, FIA president K K Thomas and others will be present.
Apart from the various seminars on bee keeping, the public will also have an opportunity to know about the different varieties of honey and their importance, said Horticulture Mission director K Pratapan and FIA general secretary A Abdul Kalam. On the first day, Rural Affairs Minister K C Joseph will inaugurate the talk on ‘Bee Keeping and Rural Economy’. Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, FIA patron S Devaneshan and Bio Diversity Board K P Lala Das will be present.
On the second day, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob will inaugurate a seminar on ‘Food security and honey bees’. Bio Diversity Chairman Oommen V Oommen and FIB Principal Information officer Roy Mathew will be present. Speaker N Shakthan will inaugurate a seminar on ‘Bee keeping and employment opportunity’, which will be attended by Labour Minister Shibu Baby John and others. An interactive session on the importance of Honey Mission will also be held.
Cooperation Minister C N Balakrishnan will inaugurate the talk on ‘Importance of Bee Keeping in Rural economy’ on the third day. Agriculture College dean L Rajamani, KVIC assistant director M Chinnathampi and others will be present. The fourth day will focus on ‘Epitherapy’. Mayor K Chandrika will inaugurate the valedictory function.
