Vizhinjam: CM to Hold Officer-level Meeting

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will convene an officer-level meeting on September 22 to discuss the issue raised by various coastal groups regarding the Vizhinjam project.

On Thursday, Chandy held talks with representatives of ‘Kambavala’ (shore-seine) fishermen, clam fishermen, Vizhinjam Port Action Council led by the Latin Catholic Church, the Jama-aths in the project area and Dheevara Sabha.

While studies have shown that the project will not trigger shoreline changes, adverse impact if any would be dealt with effectively, the Chief Minister said. The government will publish the report submitted by a Sub-Collector-led committee on the impact of the project on ‘Kambavala’ and clam fishermen on Friday.

Grievances, if any, regarding the report and list of affected persons can brought before an appeal committee headed by the District Collector.
