Curtains for Soorya Fest to Go up Today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Curtains will go up for the 38th annual Soorya Festival in the capital on Monday. The festival will be inaugurated by Mayor K Chandrika at Co-Bank Tower auditorium. State-award winning film ‘Ottal’ directed by Jayaraj will be screened on the opening day. Vasudevan, the lead character, will be present on the occasion. This year marks danseuse Shobhana’s 25th year at the festival and Yesudas will be presenting his concert for the 38th time.

The film festival, a part of the fest, will be open from Monday to September 30. The film fest will feature movies from different Indian languages. At the dance-music festival from October 1 to 10, Yesudas, P Unnikrishnan, Chithra Visweswaran, Shobhana, Priyadarshini Govind, Manju Warrier, Lakshmi Gopalaswami, Rajendra Gangani, Rahul Acharya, Sonali Mahapatra, Ranbir and Baishali Sarkar will wow audiences with their stellar performances.

Fedayi Pacha electronic oriental music from France will kick off the National Theatre Fest. In the following days, plays from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, New Delhi, Bengal and Karnataka will be staged. Six solo dance dramas, showcasing the female characters in the epics, under the title ‘Insight’ will be staged. These dance dramas will be about Amrapali, Rambha, Surpanakha, Ahalya, Uruvi and Bhoodevi. Entry is restricted and the delegate passes will be issued on a first come first serve basis for 500. The passes are available from Co-Bank Tower auditorium from Monday 5 pm onwards.

Jalsaghar, the Hindustani Chamber concert this time has, Hindustani music, Ghazal, Qawwali and Harmonium by famous exponents. The parampara dance festival will stage Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniyattom performances. The fest will come to a close with ‘Sivoham’, a fusion dance by Navya Nair on November 11.
