Women film festival to start from December 1 in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 6th edition of Female Film Festival, jointly organised by Kerala Sthree Padana Kendra and Bharat Bhavan, will be held in the city from December 1 to 4. Urvashi will inaugurate the festival at 5 pm in the presence of Kamal, Beena Paul, Bhagyalakshmi, Sona Nair and Rajasree Warrier. It will be followed by a public screening of Vasanthathinte Kanal Vazhikal, Anil Nagendarn’s  period film set in the 1940s.

A spate of outstanding films will be screened as part of the festival  from 9.30 am to 5 pm at Semmangudi Smriti Mandapam, Bharat Bhavan. On December 2 there will be a seminar on Transgenders and Kerala Society. Minister K K Shylaja will inaugurate the seminar while S Sreekutty, Shalin Varghese, Anil Chilla and Prijith P K will participate. The events will come to an end with the cultural programmes presnted by Oasis Thiruvananthapuram Transgenders. On December 3 there will be a debate on Women cinema : Changing Perspective. Madhupal will present the subject  while T N seema, V K Joseph, Sulochana Rammohan, M S Sreekala, Jayageetha and Anil Nagendran will participate.

On the valedictory function on  December 4 veteran actress KPAC Lalitha will be honoured with P K Rosy Award, an award instituted in the memory of the first heroine of Malayalam cinema. The function will be inaugurated by minister Kadakampally Surendran. Lenin Rajendran, Pramod Payyannur, Sajitha Madathil and Parvathy will speak at the occasion.
Some of the important films included in the festival are Teen Kanya by satayajit Ray, Chokher Bali by Rituparno Ghosh, Fatima by Philippe Fancon, Mustang by Deniz Gamze Erguven, Mother by Bong Joon-ho and Danish Girl by Tom Hooper.
