Two youths arrested for duping shop owners

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Rural Police on Wednesday arrested two youths for allegedly cheating owners of several newly-opened shops in the state of lakhs of rupees after giving them false promises of increasing their business returns.

The police identified the accused as Suneesh, 29, and Sujeer, 37. Both belong to Paravur in Kollam district. The arrest was recorded by the Kallambalam police. According to the police, the accused had duped several people in Kallambalam, Pallikkal, Ayiroor and Malayinkeezhu police station limits. The accused had confessed that they had committed fraud in other districts too. Police stations in Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kollam districts have been intimated about the arrest.


 “The accused used to visit newly-opened shops and promise items at a low rates compared to the actual market rates. As many of the shop owners are inexperienced in handling such men, they get duped. Most of the shops had given an advance amount to the accused and the latter apparently  absconded.

The arrest was recorded based on a complaint filed by a shop owner at Kallambalam who said that he had lost Rs 50,000 given as the advance amount for purchasing goods. The accused have been booked under Section 420 (cheating) of Indian Penal Code”, said Anish Karim, Kallambalam SI.   The accused were later remanded in judicial custody.
