THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Eight new offices of the Kerala State Backward Classes Development Corporation will be set up during the current financial year as part of the Corporation’s expansion plans, Minister for Welfare of SC/STs and Backward Classes A K Balan has said.


The Minister was inaugurating the state-level scholarship programme of the Corporation at the Mascot Hotel here.Craft villages will be launched in association with the Tourism Department to create a permanent market for products made by the beneficiaries. The craft villages will also feature traditional art forms of people from the Other Backward Classes (OBCs).


Low interest loans to the tune of Rs 100 crore will be disbursed during the current financial year to both individual and group enterprises of 150 Kudumbasree units.    Vattiyoorkavu MLA K Muraleedharan presided over the function. Mayor V K Prasanth distributed special awards to students who have secured 100 per cent marks in Plus Two examination. Principal Secretary, Department of Backward Classes, V Venu distributed loans to beneficiaries. 

Kerala University Pro Vice Chancellor N Veeramanikandan and Thiruvananthapuram Corporation Councillor Palayam Rajan offered felicitations.

Corporation Managing Director K T Bala Bhaskaran presented the report. While Corporation Chairman Sangeeth Chakrapani welcomed the gathering and General Manager (Project) Balakrishnan Anakai delivered the vote of thanks. 

Scholarship for students in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts, who secured A+ grade in all subjects in Plus Two examination (state syllabus, 2015-16), was distributed on the occasion. 
The scholarship for students in other districts will be distributed through the respective district offices of the Corporation.
