The state unit of the BJP is launching a ‘Digital banking literacy mission’ to promote PM Narendra Modi’s call for a paper currency-free society.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The state unit of the BJP is launching a ‘Digital banking literacy mission’ to promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a paper currency-free society.

The mission aims to generate awareness among people about digital banking and equip them for it, BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan said. The mission will be launched in Kochi on Saturday. A special committee will be formed with the involvement of experts from the banking sector.

‘’Through the mission, the people will be made aware of the importance of digital banking in curbing black money and the how-to of digital transactions. Specially-trained workers will raise awareness through sessions at the panchayat level,’’ Rajasekharan said.

Residents’ associations, clubs and voluntary organisations will be roped in for the programme.
There is also a plan to transform selected panchayats into totally paper currency-free panchayats as part of the mission’s activities, he said.

On Wednesday morning, the BJP is planning to hold a public meeting in front of the Secretariat on the demonetisation drive.
