THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Megha Divakaran of Canossa College of Nursing, Kannur, has emerged as the fastest woman athlete in the fifth Kerala University of Health Sciences inter-collegiate athletics championship held at the Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium here on Tuesday.

Megha won the women’s 100-metre race ahead of Dhanya C Rose of Holy Cross College of Nursing, Kottiyam, who took silver and Elsa C A of Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur, who won bronze.
Arunima Alphonse K M of Canossa won the gold in the women’s 1,500-metre race while Vijil of Dr. Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College and Hospital, Karakonam won the gold in the men’s race. Canossa also emerged successful in the women’s 5,000-metre race as Libina P Baby won the gold and teammate Amala Johney took the silver.

Mount Zion Medical College, Adoor’s Navaneeth R won the gold in the men’s long jump leaping a distance of 6.08 metres while Government College of Nursing, Thrissur’s Sruthy Sasi won the women’s long jump gold. Meanwhile, Harish Babu of Government Medical College, Kottayam took the top spot on the podium for men’s high jump leaping 1.61 metres.

Silja M R of Saraswathy College, Karode, won gold in women’s high jump. Hari Kirshnan of Malabar Medical College, Modakkallur, won the men’s shot put event while Anu V Dev of Bethany Navajeevan College of Physiotherapy, Thiruvananthapuram, won the gold in the women’s event.

Canossa College is leading the table at the end of the first day of the two-day event amassing a total of 21 points while Government TD Medical College, Alappuzha, are second with 11 points. Government College of Nursing, Thrissur, and Mount Zion College, Adoor, are level on six points.

Kerala University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Dr M K C Nair had inaugurated the meet earlier in the day in a function that was also attended by KUHS Dean students affair Dr Manoj, Ayurveda Medical Education director Dr P K Ashok and Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram principal Dr Thomas Mathew among others.
