THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: LDF swept 10 out of the 14 local body constituencies to which by-elections were held on Friday. While UDF won three wards, BJP emerged winner in one ward.
LDF wrested Seemathapuram and Padinjattela wards in Thiruvananthapuram as well as Anpatham Mile in Idukki from the UDF and lost Areekode ward in Kozhikode to the Congress-led front. BJP retained Mepparambu ward in Palakkad.
The wards won by LDF, the winners and the winning margin are as follows: Kizhuvilam (Thiruvananthapuram district panchayat) - Sreekantan Nair - 1993, Maruthamcode (Athiyannoor grama panchayat) - Sunitha Rani -88, Seemathapuram (Madavoor grama panchayat) - Rajani Renjith - 311, Pandinjattela (Madavoor grama panchayat) - Siddique M - 137, Kayyalakkal (Kollam corporation) - M Naushad - 465, Anpatham Mile (Mankulam grama panchayat) - Bincy Roy - 48, Kaipamangalam (Thrissur district panchayat) - B G Vishnu - 6,880, Njamanangod (Vadekkekad grama panchayat) - Sindhu Manoj - 27, Palloor East (Deshamangalam grama panchayat) - K Jayaraj - 11 and Thirunelli (Manathavadi block panchayat) - M Satheesh Kumar - 2,924.
UDF: Calvary Mount (Kamakshi panchayat) - Bijumon Thomas - 14, Areekode (Kozhikode corporation) - Syed Mohammad Shameel S V - 416 and Aayitti (Thrikkarippur panchayat) - Tahseena K V - 180.BJP’s Shanthi V A won the Mepparambu ward (Palakkad municpality) by a margin of 182 votes.
