Unique enough to clean your city

A Bangalore-based startup has introduced a biogas plant in the capital

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Here’s a different kind of biogas waste disposal system which could be the solution to your waste woes. Mohit Behl, director, sales of GPS Renewables, a Bangalore-based startup says that this system can be remotely mointored and maintained from one place.

“Remote-operated biogas plants are a rarity here in Kerala which is why we recently introduced it in the capital. One problem with standard biogas plants are that they may not be functioning efficiently always. These need continuous monitoring. Our biogas plants have used technology and innovation to make it more efficient,” he said
Waste disposal, one of the major problems in the capital city, has always caused problems for people- in the form of mosquito infestation, diseases or even stray dog menace.

When GPS Renewables at Bangalore was started in 2012, it had a strength of just four people. Now, with a small team of around 30 personnel, the Bangalore-based environmental firm, which has come up with a biogas machine titled ‘BioUrja’ has plants in other cities like Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur and so on, apart from a few places outside India.

Mohit adds, “Right now, we have installed our biogas plants at Infosys campus here and the ACE College of Engineering. When it comes to organic waste disposal methods, awareness on the same is still less among people. This waste disposal system is twice more efficient and faster than other biogas plants. “

The plants which can be remotely controlled from the Bangalore firm claims to process around 500 kg of waste daily at the Infosys campus, processing around 70 cubic metres of Biogas, while the plant at ACE College of Engineering. Though they have started out their waste disposal initiatives in the capital city, the plans is to address the problem in other cities as well.
