THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The general hospital here has received the approval of the National Board of Examinations under the Health Ministry for starting DNB Degree program in Anaesthesia and Surgery. The hospital is one of the two government institutions in the state to have a nationally accredited PG degree program.

The hospital has received approval for three seats for DNB Anaesthesiology program and two seats in DNB Surgery programme. The General hospital is now accredited for four years from 2016 for Anaesthesiology and Surgery, provided the hospital maintains the accreditation criteria which are periodically reassessed.

The candidates for anaesthesiology have already joined the course and one candidate has joined the surgery programme.

The doctors at the general hospital said that it was the successful running of the DNB programmes in the last many years that has made available the two courses in the hospital.

As part of the course, the hospital authorities have arranged necessary academic facilities including department libraries. Academic arrangements have also been put in place with Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for super-specialty training as part of the training curriculum.
