THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Often, people complain about getting calls from unknown numbers. The True Caller app did solve the problem to a certain extent but according to a new viral message, a new ‘mobile number tracker’ promises to find the location of the caller as well. However, this viral message is only reaching people belonging to different parts of the State, but the contents of the message holds no truth.

The message claims to detect the location of any mobile number from any part of the country and contains a link to download the app. The exact message goes: Detect any mobile number location using this application for android...simple and easy to download no survey go http://ft7.in/Mobile_number_Tracker.

While the language of the message gives us a hint that it’s fake, users can still be misled since the link leads to a new message that asks the user to accept the terms and conditions to instal the app.

The page asks the user permission to access or delete the SD card information. After accepting the terms and conditions, an immediate download takes place on the device.

After the download, the app asks for a number to be tracked. After a couple of minutes, a message pops up on the app claiming to have found the location. However, just when the user begins to feel like the app is in fact genuine, the not-so-unusual ‘share this message with ten people’ demand comes up!

While this app might not be genuine, there are several other apps that helps find the location of a caller. Courtesy Google. And if not Google, the cyber police can always help you.
