Kerala railway stations to get women-friendly toilets

The Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation (KSWDC) under the Department of Social Justice will install 10 new women friendly she-toilets at railway stations.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation (KSWDC) under the Department of Social Justice will install 10 new women friendly she-toilets at railway stations. Trivandrum Central will get two, while Shoranur, Vadakara, Tirur, Payyannur, Kannur, Kanhangad, Kasargod and Palakad stations will get one each. At Thiruvananthapuram, toilets have been installed near the railway mail service and at the back gate. She-toilets will also be installed at Thrithala village office in Palakkad and private bus stand at Payyoli in Kozhikode,  KSWDC MD Bindu V C said.

KSWDC has installed 49 she-toilets since 2012. The hi-tech toilets clean themselves after use, alert if there is an issue with water or drainage and play music. KSWDC said the toilets have been designed with safety features and can be easily moved or reinstalled. Health and Social Justice Minister K K Shylaja will inaugurate the toilets on Thursday.
