THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac on Saturday stressed that waste treatment should aim at forming a ‘Green Kerala’.

Isaac, who visited around 40 houses in Sasthamangalam with Mayor VK Prasanth to create awareness on ‘Kitchen-bin’ initiative, also gave necessary suggestions regarding waste disposal at each house. “If the clean campaign in the city follows  the same pace of its implementation in Sasthamangalam, the capital district would soon become the first completely clean district in Kerala,” he said, adding, “Though there are other scientific waste treatment methods, the ‘Kitchen-bin’ project has been the biggest success.”

As part of implementing the project, Pelican Foundation has been giving necessary support in ensuring waste disposal at the resource. Additionally, plastic and e-wastes are collected from houses regularly. The project is being implemented with support from the environment department by TBGRI. Agencies such as Residents Welfare Association, Suchitwa mission, the city corporation and NGOs  came together for the initiative.
