Three killed, five hurt in two mishaps

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three people were killed and five injured in two different accidents that took place at Marayamuttom and Vembayam on Thursday.
 Two people were killed after a tipper lorry hit the bike that they were riding near Marayamuttom. The deceased were identified as Vipin, 18, of Aruvippuram and Balu, 20, of Marayamuttom. They were heading to a biscuit factory where they worked when the mishap happened took place near Chittattinkara petrol pump.
 Balu, who was riding the bike, died on the spot and Vipin was later declared dead at Medical College Hospital. The tipper lorry was coming from Tamil Nadu with granite. The local residents staged a protest demanding staunch action against tipper lorries that travel in precarious manner from local quarries.
 In the second incident, a driver was killed and five others injured after a KSRTC bus hit his general purpose vehicle at Koppam, near Vembayam. The deceased was identified as Rajan, 28, of Kattuva, Kanyakumari. The vehicle he was driving was heading towards Venjaramoodu, when a Thiruvananthapuram-bound KSRTC bus hit it before crashing into a transformer.
  The injured bus passengers are, Thankamani Amma, 56, Prasad, 49, Leela ,48 and Malini, 20 of  Madavoor and Vijayan, 50, of Kilimanoor.
