Shortage of water in trains to delay journeys

Shortage of water will delay one’s train journey and make it unpleasant. A cut in supply by Kerala Water Authority to Thiruvananthapuram Central and Kochuveli means Railways has to fill water in train

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Shortage of water will delay one’s train journey and make it unpleasant. A cut in supply by Kerala Water Authority to Thiruvananthapuram Central and Kochuveli means Railways has to fill water in trains from  wayside stations where watering facility is available such as Kottayam and Alappuzha. This will cause detention en-route besides affecting cleanliness of coaches.

The Railways has requested passengers to bear with them till the water supply is fully restored.

Daily 50,000 passengers use Thiruvananthapuram Central and Kochuveli terminals, the major coach caring centres of Trivandrum division. Over 400 coaches of mail/express and passenger trains are being cleaned and made ready for daily travel.

The demand for water is about 12 lakh litres and 3.5 lakh litres for Thiruvananthapuram and Kochuveli respectively. The division has  been relying on KWA since there is no water source available with the Railways. “KWA has curtailed supply to Thiruvananthapuram Central from April 18 and to Kochuveli from April 20.

We are finding it extremely difficult to maintain the coaches and watering them,” Railways said in a statement.
