THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Service Scheme of the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School is setting a model in charity.

The scheme members on Saturday supplied free meal to the patients of the primary health centre at Kuttichal. They also donated steel utensils to the hospital to supply food for the patients. The hospital frequented by a large number of patients from the tribal areas supply free food on every Saturday.

The number of persons availing of the facility ranges between 70 and 80, hospital sources said. Not just patients, poor people in the nearby areas too come here to have the free food.

Hospital officials said they do not entertain people supplying food prepared outside due to hygiene concerns.

The free food scheme is conducted with the help of donations.  

The food is prepared by a team led by Asha worker Valsala Kumari. The students’ initiative was inaugurated by medical officer of the primary health centre Dr Joy John.

Steel plates were handed over to the hospital by NSS programme officer Sameer Siddiqui to Dr Amit Darwin. School’s PTA president Poovachal Sudheer, Dr Jijimol, health inspector Anil M K, nurses Sheeba M, Najeera, Revathy, Usha, Indira, volunteer secretary Arya S Hashim, Vishnu and Akhil attended.
