THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: City-based swimmer Suneesh S is aiming to strike gold at the upcoming Kerala State Aquatics Championship after emerging as the individual champion in the 41st  Thiruvananthapuram District Aquatics Championship for Seniors held at the Nanniyode Swimming Pool.  
In the two-day meet, Suneesh won the gold in the 50 metre, 100 metre, and 200 metre breaststroke events as well as the 200 metre and 400 metre individual medleys. 19-year-old Suneesh is a third year BCom student at Mar Ivanios College in the city.

Suneesh also represents Trivandrum Aquatic Centre, Karumam in events and is coached by K K Mukundan, former national team coach and current coach at ORCA Club, in Chennai. Hailing from Kannetumukku, Suneesh is the son of former national springboard and highboard diver N Suresh and K Neela.

“The district championship worked well for me as a preparation for the state meet. I hope if I can take this form into the state championship this week, I can win a couple of medals there as well,” said the swimmer.
Suneesh clocked 31.07 seconds in the 50 metre breaststroke while recording 1 min 8.77 secs to win the 100-metre event. He won the 200 metre breaststroke in 2 minutes 33 seconds and the individual medley in 2 minutes 25.78 seconds. His fifth and final gold of the championship came in the 400-metre medley with a timing of 5 minutes 12.97 seconds.
