THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 22 -year-old mother and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter went missing in Karamana river near Aryanad here on Saturday. Sheethal and her daughter, Niya are the missing. The Aryanad police have registered a case in connection with the incident and an intense search is on in the river to trace them with the help of Fire and Rescue team and local divers. Bad weather and heavy undercurrents in the river are affecting the search operations, police said.
The police suspect it to be a case of suicide as local people saw a woman with a kid jumping from the Eliyavoor bridge around 11.30 am. It is learned from the relatives that Sheethal left her residence around 9 am with the ailing kid to consult a doctor. She is estranged from her husband Shyju for quite some time and the court proceedings are under way.
She had been depressed for the last few days. Hence she might have jumped off the bridge while returning home, relatives told police. However, the police have initiated a probe into the incident. Sheethal is the daughter of Manoharan and Sujatha of Uzhamalakkal.
