The festival began with keralanadanam, thiruvathirakali and ottamthullal. The 12 venues became lively in the evening when residents flocked to watch the kids battle it out on stage. Literary events were also held on the first day. Kakkarishi drama, vilpattu and megathiruvathira also drew the attention of the audience.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in front of venues where the thiruvathirakali was held with some parents and guardians of the participants entering into a heated argument with the judges alleging favouritism. Some parents had played audio clips of a phone conversation between a judge and a parent of a participant.

With 62 items getting over on the first day, Thiruvananthapuram South sub-district is leading with 151 points closely followed by Kilimanoor sub-district with 150 points and host sub-district Attingal with 147 points.
