Veteran journalist V R Vijayaram passes away

Veteran journalist and Editor of Yoganadam, V R Vijayaram, 83, passed away here on Wednesday evening. 

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran journalist and Editor of Yoganadam, V R Vijayaram, 83, passed away here on Wednesday evening.  He is the father of  The New Indian Express Principal Correspondent Tiki Rajwi.

Vijayaram was earlier Resident Editor of Kerala Kaumudi in Alappuzha and had served as its Chief of Bureau in Kochi. After retirement, he joined SNDP mouthpiece Yoganadam in 2002 and remained its Editor till death.

Vijayaram, who began his career with Deccan Herald, Bengaluru, joined Kerala Kaumudi in 1975 as a reporter. Known as a soft spoken journalist, Vijayaram is credited with blending journalism with literature. The weekly column he handled shed light on the personal and literary life of leading writers, critics,  poets and the socio-political personalities of the time. M Govindan, O V Vijayan, M Leelavathi, K P Appan, G Sankara Kurup and KGS were among those featured in the popular column.

Vijayaram is survived by wife T G Mony (former vice principal, Food Craft Institute, Kalamassery), sons Tiki and Titi Rajwi (IBM, Singapore) and daughters-in-law Athira M (Principal Correspondent/subeditor, The Hindu) and Sumitha Dass (IBM, Bengaluru). The cremation will be held later at his residence (Vynappillil House) at Ochanthuruth, Vypeen.
