THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The YMCA national general body meet at Kazhakoottam on Friday ended with a fistfight between the leadership team and a few regional units of YMCA over the issue of control over the latter.

YMCA regional units in Thiruvananthapuram and Puthur were opposed to a change in the YMCA constitution which allowed greater control to the national leadership. Representatives of the units demanded the amendments be postponed till the issue was sorted out by the court. They claimed an order by the Delhi High Court did not sanction the amendment.

“The national leadership wanted to scuttle the court order. They even brought bouncers to silence those opposing the move,” alleged K V Thomas, former president of Thiruvananthapuram YMCA. He said two representatives of YMCA, Puthur, suffered injuries and were admitted to a hospital nearby.
