Work on Rs 100 crore film festival complex to begin in April: A K Balan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 23rd edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) will be held from December 14 to 21, 2018. Announcing this, Culture Minister A K Balan said that work on the new Film Festival Complex will begin in April and the project is expected to be completed in three years.
The state government is hopeful of hosting the 25th edition of IFFK at the new complex slated to come up at a 10-acre facility at Chitranjali Studio, the minister said.

When completed, the festival complex will have two auditoriums with a capacity of 2,000 and 2,500 each.
Besides the two theatres, the Rs 100 crore complex will have a preview facility, the headquarters of the Chalachitra Academy, among others facilities. A Film City will be built at a cost of Rs 150 crore and a digital film archive will be set up at KINFRA park, he said.

Finance Minister Thomas Isaac said in his inaugural address that at a time when India is facing intolerance, Kerala remained a safe haven for artists. The government will spend Rs 10 billion for exposing people to art, literature and culture, he said, adding that the state is planning to set up 100 theatres at the village level, where parallel films will be screened during morning shows.
