Worker crushed under cargo elevator in Kaniyapuram

The incident took place around 10.30 am when some workers were shifting goods to the first floor of the building.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A youth was crushed to death when the cargo elevator in a home appliances showroom fell on him at Alummoodu near Kaniyapuram on Tuesday. He was Vishnu, 25, son of Suresh Kumar and Sindhu, a resident of Chempazhanthy. 

The incident took place around 10.30 am at ‘Re Touch home appliances’ when some workers were shifting goods to the first floor of the building. Vishnu and a few others were standing under the elevator when it collapsed owing to excess load. Vishnu, who was trapped under the elevator, suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared brought dead.

The body was later handed over to his family after post-mortem. Vishnu is survived by wife Athira and brother Rishikesh.  The Mangalapuram police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
