Janamaithri to spread wings

The state government has decided to extend the Janamaithri Suraksha community policing scheme to all the police stations in the state.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has decided to extend the Janamaithri Suraksha community policing scheme to all the police stations in the state.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will make a formal announcement in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday. 


Structured to prevent crime and encourage cooperation between the police and the public in security matters, the project envisages strengthening the police by obtaining the support of the local community. In a press release, the police said the project has made a tremendous impact on Kerala society.

Initially the project was launched in 20 selected police stations. So far, Janamaithri Suraksha project has been implemented in 267 selected police stations(20 stations in 2008, 23 stations in 2009, 105 stations in 2010 and 100 stations in 2012). At present, the state houses 519 police stations.
