THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Chalachithra Academy’s weekly film exhibition programme will be held at Bharat Bhavan on Saturdays. A film maker or critic will be present for each film screening, to help students who have film as part of their syllabus.
Nebraska (2014), a black and white film by Alexander Payne will be exhibited on Saturday. The film shot in the style of a road movie takes the audience on an emotional journey of nostalgia. Nebraska has received several accolades, including six nominations at the Academy awards in 2014.
On March 4, under the World Classic category, Taste of Cherry by Abbas Kiarostami will be exhibited. The 95-minutes-long Iranian film, shot in 1997, deals with the story of a man on a quest to end his life. Neelan, Academy general council member and media personality, will introduce the film.
On March 11, marking Women’s Day, Frida, a US biopic that depicts the life of the well-known Mexican artist Frida Kahlo will be screened. Meena T Pillai, author of ‘Women in Malayalam cinema’ will introduce the film. Julie Taymor is the director of the film.
On March 18, G Aravindan’s Vaasthuhara (1991) will be screened. Critic C S Venkiteswaran will introduce the film.
On March 24, Turkey film Once upon a time in Anatolia will be screened. Nuri Bilge Ceylan, one of the prominent directors of Turkey, has directed the film which is a metaphysical journey into life, death and limits of knowledge.
On March 31, Sairat by Nagraj Manjule will be screened. The film has received several awards world over. The film deals with the love story of two young people from different castes at a village in Maharashtra, that unravels the the dark belly of the village life.
