THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Ahead of Assembly elections in five states, the CPM politburo will meet here on Thursday. The three-day Central Committee meet from Friday to Sunday will chalk out the tactical line to be adopted by the Left in the Assembly polls. Senior leaders including Sitaram Yechury, Prakash Karat, S Ramachandran Pillai, Biman Basu, Manik Sarkar, Brinda Karat, M A Baby, Surjya Kanta Mishra, A K Padmanabhan and Hannan Mollah reached the capital city on Wednesday.

Politburo members B V Raghavulu, Mohammed Salim and Subhashini Ali will reach on Thursday morning while CC member Tapan Sen will reach only by Thursday night. Majority of the other Central Committee members have already reached the town. The politburo meet will be held at AKG Centre while the CC will meet at Hotel Hycinth in the city.

The four-day leadership meets are crucial for the CPM in Kerala also as a number of major issues including the PB Commission report in the VS Achuthanandan issue are scheduled to come up before the PB and CC meets.

Other issues of relevance to the state including the nepotism charges against E P Jayarajan and P K Sreemathy and a reported letter sent by V S Achuthanandan urging the Central leadership to look into the murder charges against Electricity Minister M M Mani may also figure in the discussions. However the final agenda of the CC would be finalised by the PB meet on Thursday.

‘RSS held 30 arms training camps’
The CPM has alleged that the RSS had organised weapons training and other illegal activities at 30 centres across the state during the Christmas holidays. The party leadership, in a statement here, demanded a probe into the development.  The CPM state leadership pointed out that details about the weapons training at a programme called ‘Sibiram’ were now  out with enough evidence.

“As per the evidence, a training programme named ‘Niyudha’ was organised during the six-day Sibiram. It’s enough evidence that the RSS has been trying to create violence in the state,” the statement said, while terming the situation highly serious.

“It should be probed who gave permission for such programmes. Government establishments should not be allowed to be misused for weapons training,” the CPM said and alleged that the other day there was a deliberate attempt by the BJP to create violence at Cheemeni in Kasargod. The CPM leadership alleged that BJP attempted to create deliberate violence during its hartal at Kasargod. The BJP has been trying to create provocation through such incidents. The RSS leadership is behind the planning, the CPM said and demanded that the State Government should take strong action against weapons training and other illegal activities.
