Girls drum out boys

When it comes to percussion not even the boys could beat the girls of Holy Angels’ Convent School, Vanchiyoor.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When it comes to percussion not even the boys could beat the girls of Holy Angels’ Convent School, Vanchiyoor. The girl power drummed their way to impressive wins in Chendamelam and Thayambaka in both the high school and higher secondary categories at the Revenue District School Arts Festival being held here.

On Friday the higher secondary students - Rainu, Alisha,Annie, Elsa, Sharika, Pavithra H (lead) and Ancy (in the order as seen in the picture) won the first prize and scored A grade in Chendamelam.
The team led by Rahitha won first prize in both Chendamelam and Thayambaka in the High School category. Sreelekshmi J S and her team won Thayambaka in the Higher Secondary category on Thursday.

The students received their training from Kalamandalam Krishnadas. There is no separate event for boys and girls in percussion. The girls had to outsmart boys in both talent and  energy levels to emerge champions. At the sub district level there were just 2 girl teams against 8 boys team. At the revenue district level there were 3 against 12 boys team.
