The recruitment process for nurses and housemaids would be made meticulous, Sheela Thomas, Additional Chief Secretary, Non-Resident Keralites’ Affairs (NORKA), has said.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The recruitment process for nurses and housemaids would be made meticulous, Sheela Thomas, Additional Chief Secretary, Non-Resident Keralites’ Affairs (NORKA), has said.

She said this after holding a discussion with the Protector General of Emigrants M C Luther at the eMigrate stall in Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017, which has concluded in Bengaluru. Principal Secretary (Industries) Paul Antony was also present at the discussion.

In India, only a few agencies, including Norka-Roots of the Kerala government, are dealing in recruitment to countries that require emigration clearance. Appointments done through Government of India portal ‘e emigrate’ assure job security and salary. Sheela Thomas also said adequate steps would be taken to make use of the increasing job opportunities in health sector in countries like Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries.

App launched
The Indian Customs and Central Excise Department has come up with a handy mobile app ‘Indian Customs Traveller’s Guide App’. The details of the app were explained by Deputy Commissioner, Customs and Central Excise, Dr Bejoy John, when he visited the Kerala pavilion.

The app was developed to create awareness among NRIs on bona fide baggage, prohibited and restricted goods, duty-free allowance for bona fide baggage, free allowance for import of jewellery as baggage and conditions for import of gold. Besides English, this app is available in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam. It is available on Android, iOS and Windows operating systems.
