Running to raise funds for the critically ill 

A charity run to raise funds for financially-needy patients suffering from critical diseases will be held in the city on Saturday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A charity run to raise funds for financially-needy patients suffering from critical diseases will be held in the city on Saturday.

The run titled ‘SBI Life TrivandRUN-17’ is hosted by the capital-based charity organisation Save a Rupee Spread a Smile (SARSAS) in association with Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS - Mrithasanjeevani). This is the fourth edition of the charity run.


The fund raised will be handed over to needy patients requiring organ transplantation. Charity aims to create awareness against diseases and effective support to financially needy patients through public support. The money collected through registration will be handed over to KNOS - Mrithasanjeevani to help patients who require financial assistance for organ transplantation. 


Suresh Gopi, MP, District Collector S Venkatesapathy and State Police Chief Loknath Behra will together flag off the marathon. Corporate relay will start from Golf club at 4.45 am.

This will be followed by 10 km run at 5.15 am and 2 km Fun Run at 5.45am. Spot registration facility will be available from 4.30 am to 5.15 am at Golf club. The registration fee will be Rs 500. For registration and other details, contact: 9447712241/ 9496181878

Certificate by SAI
‘SBI Life TrivandRUN - 17’ marathon will be monitored by officials from SAI-LNCPE. The first and second positions in the 10 km run will be presented with cash awards. The first 30 runners to complete the run will get a finishing certificate by SAI- LNCPE. All other runners will get participation certificate. Surveillance cameras have been installed at various locations to monitor the run. 

Route Map 
Golf Club link road - Kowdiar Junction - Kuravankonam - Kowdiar Junction - Ambalamukku - Kowdiar Junction - Vellayambalam -  Corporation Gate - Vellayambalam - Sasthamangalam - Vellayambalam - Golf Club link Road. The run will be followed by a presentation function, musical concert by Suchith Sureshan and band, dance show by DR crew at Golf Club. 

Four Years of Helping The Needy 
The run was launched by SARAS four years ago with an aim to spread awareness, promote collective participation of the masses and to raise fund for the ailing. Ever since the first edition in 2014, the run has been aiming at and reaching higher and greater goals. 


TrivandRun-2014 turned out to be a huge success with unbelievable response from the public. More than 20 needy cancer patients at the Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram were helped with the fund collected in the run in which over 1,500 people participated.  In 2015, 2,000 people participated in the event and the fund raised was used to support renal patients. In 2016, Rs 12 lakh was donated to the Regional Cancer Centre.
