A community art project initiated by London-based artist Robert Morris Monroe, this space is created with a  motive to support travelling artists at minimum charge.

Set up as a pop studio at the moment, this 30-something’s endeavour is focussed on building a permanent studio-cum-living space in Kochi through his ongoing crowdfunding campaign at IndieGoGo.

Finding meaning
Equipped with two bedrooms and two display galleries—with one of them located inside the bungalow—Art Space currently exhibits the works of renowned photographer Shiju Basheer.

“With such a vibrant art oriented culture on the bloom, I feel that Kochi is in need of a place like this,” explains Monroe.

While referring to his tryst with Kochi as a random one inspired by his travels through the region of Varkala, Monroe works with bold strokes against muted shadows that are often symbolic in nature.

“I like to keep my artistic expressions abstract in order to push viewers to find meanings by themselves than me explaining what it is,” shares Monroe, who will be exhibiting his India-inspired  surrealworks featuring oil paint and enamel at London-based 19 Greek street in April. Crowdfunding campaign remains open till February. Details: morrismonroe.com.
