Man held with unaccounted money

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: THE city shadow police nabbed a 55-year-old man for allegedly possessing unaccounted money to the tune of Rs 5,82,995 here on Tuesday morning. The Pettah police recorded the arrest of Abdul Rahmankutty, a native of Koduvally in  Kozhikode.
According to police, Rahmankutty was detained in front of Kepco restaurant, near Pettah market, following a tip-off.

He arrived in the city in the morning with a suitcase containing new currency notes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 denominations. Upon interrogation, he revealed that he came to hand over the money to two persons in the city.
The police seized the money and began probe. Preliminary investigation indicated that there were more persons involved in the black money racket and the accused was just a carrier. It was also revealed in the probe that the accused had come to the city after visiting some persons at Attingal.

“Efforts are on to nab the other person involved in the racket. We will investigate  the antecedents of the persons who were to receive the cash from the accused. We will hand over the accused to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at Ernakulam after producing him before the court. We will investigate  further about the racket after seeking custody of the accused from ED,” said M Chandrabose, Pettah SI.
The accused was later produced before the magistrate.
