THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If you think that owners of the cult Harley Davidson series of bikes are just show-offs, think again. In between going on long rides to places unexplored, they also spend time organising various charity events and also promote the message of road safety.

The Thiruvananthapuram chapter of Harley Owners' Group, or 'HOG' as they are popularly known, has 50 active members from among the 100 Harley Davidson owners in the capital.
On Saturday evening, over 125 members from across the state would assemble at Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Resort and Spa, Kovalam for the ‘HOG Nite’.

“We have planned a series of events and the theme would be road safety. We will release a safety ride booklet on the occasion and give away prizes to HOG members under various categories. Senior HOG members will also be honoured on the occasion,” said Aneesh James Jose, assistant director of HOG, Thiruvananthapuram.

Charity Initiatives

The HOG Chapter in the capital had recently raised funds to build a house for a destitute woman in Kariavattom. They had also raised Rs 75,000 to meet the surgical expenses of a kidney patient. A cancer patient in the capital also got a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 thanks to the initiative of the HOG members.

Star Attraction
Over 89 to 90 Harley Davidson bikes of various shapes and sizes will be on display at Uday Samudra as part of the event on Saturday. The bikes, mostly customised ones, have price tags ranging from Rs eight lakh to Rs 50 lakh.

In addition to the bikes, which have become a cult after the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie ‘Terminator’, a humongous Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) from Jeep, priced at around Rs 95 lakh, will also be on display.

Road Safety Awareness

Uday Samudra, which hosts the event, will organise a drawing competition on Road Safety in which more than 100 students from various government and private schools would participate.
The competition intends to create awareness among students about road safety. The children will also have the opportunity to interact with the Harley Davidson riders and to check out the bikes on display.
