Why no FIR in Pattoor land case: Court to VACB

The Vigilance court here has come down on the VACB in the controversial Pattoor land scam case, asking it why an FIR was not registered.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance court here has come down on the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) in the controversial Pattoor land scam case, asking it why an FIR was not registered even after obtaining enough documents.

The court made this query while hearing a petition filed by V S Achuthanandan, who sought an investigation against former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and others in the case.

VACB said the FIR could not be registered as quick verification was on and some documents were with the Lok Ayukta. It also sought more time to submit the investigation report.

In the petition, Achuthanandan alleged it was quite evident that Chandy, along with some officials, had helped the builder to take over public land. He urged the court to direct the Vigilance to register an FIR.

He alleged Chandy and others had abused their position as public servants and by corrupt and illegal means helped the realtors.

Achuthanandan also said they had taken a hasty decision in shifting the pipeline that passed under the building, ignoring the reports of the Vigilance as well as the Water Resources Department that the land belonged to the latter.
