THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : The Greenfield International Stadium located at Kariavattom will reaffirm its position as the number one sports infrastructure in the state as it opens its clubhouse and indoor sports facilities for badminton, basketball, squash, and snooker next month. Karyavattom Sports Facilities Limited (KSFL), the operators of Trivandrum Sports Hub which houses the stadium, are launching the Travancore Gymkhana Club on August 27 which will make the venue in the city a beehive of sports activities.

The club will house indoor sports facilities for badminton, table tennis, basketball, squash, chess, caroms, and snooker. Indoor as well outdoor swimming pools, gymnasium, library, cafe and a kids zone will also be part of the Travancore Gymkhana Club. “The clubhouse was envisaged to be the heart of the Sports Hub and its opening will be the next step for the venue,” said KSFL director Anilkumar Pandala. “It will be a confluence of sports, recreation, and leisure and will be a destination for healthy and active lifestyle,” he said.

The multi-sports KSFL - Tenvic Sports Academy, operated by sports coaching company Tenvic founded by Indian cricket legend Anil Kumble, also uses these indoor facilities to train youngsters from the city.
“The clubhouse will be most suitable for the entire family and people from all age groups who aspire for a healthy and sporting lifestyle,” Pandala said. The KSFL is offering two types of memberships for the public -- gold and executive -- and the enrolment is in progress.

The Sports Hub is conducting community engagement programmes like the Walker’s Club and Swimmer’s Club at present at the venue. In addition to these initiatives, more community engagement programmes are in the pipeline.  The facility has hosted events like the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Suzuki Cup 2015, Vanitha Film Awards and Mercedes-Benz Luxe Drive while the stadium has now been acquired for use by the Kerala Cricket Association who hope to domestic and international matches here in the upcoming season.
